Q. How do I apply for a freshman academic scholarship?

A. The application for undergraduate admission serves as the application for freshman academic scholarships.

Q. How do I find out if I might qualify for a freshman academic scholarship?

A. Scholarships are based on a combination of academic achievement and standardized test scores. See Freshman Academic Scholarships for more information

Q. What ACT/SAT test dates do you consider for freshman academic scholarships?

A. While all submitted test results are considered, scores for the December 2012 test date and prior, which are received before January 31, 2013, qualify students for a full award. Scores which arrive after January 31, or which qualify students after the December 2012 test date, qualify students for 50% of the scholarship and housing, as funds are available. For more information, visit the Freshman Academic Scholarships webpage.

Q. Do you accept both ACT and SAT scores for the freshman academic scholarship?

A. Yes. Both ACT and SAT scores—official, electronic scores sent directly from ACT and SAT—are used to determine eligibility for scholarship consideration.

Q. What criteria do I need to maintain my freshman academic scholarship?

A. Students must maintain both a semester and cumulative GPA of 3.0 and earn 30 hours per academic year. See retention requirements.

Q. How do I receive my freshman academic scholarship award?

A. Scholarships are applied directly to your student fee bill each semester. If your scholarship awards are greater than your charges for tuition and fees, you will be issued a refund. For more information, visit the ULM Student Account Services webpage.

Q. Does ULM offer performance-based scholarships?

A. Yes. Performance-based scholarships may be awarded to students displaying special talent or ability in specific areas, such as the visual and performing arts or athletics and spirit groups. Contact the appropriate department for additional information about performance-based scholarships.

Q. Can I receive more than one scholarship?

A. Yes. However, students are not permitted to receive dollars in excess of the cost of attendance. The cost of attendance is determined annually by the Office of Financial Aid and includes such items as tuition, room and board, books and supplies, and personal and transportation expenses.

Q. Can I receive both scholarships and financial aid?

A. Receiving a scholarship does not prevent eligible students from receiving financial aid (loans and/or grants; see ULM Financial Aid for more information). Students are encouraged to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA form each year.

Q. What does it cost to attend ULM?

A. Tuition and laboratory fees, and room and board rates are set annually (tuition and fee schedule, residential life and meal plan). For current rates, see the schedule of classes for semester-specific information and web links.

Q. Are there awards available for out-of-state students?

A. Yes, students who meet certain requirements are eligible for the out-of-state fee waiver. See scholarship information for out of state students.
