making memories, wanting to learn
Erin Hughes is a sophomore interior design major from Monroe.
I have one sister, Amber Terry, who is 6 years older than I am. I am the youngest in my family.
I am the treasurer of Phi Mu Fraternity, and I play intramural sports. I also work in the Division of University Advancement.
I want to be successful in whatever my field is. If I stay in Interior Design, I hope to have my own business one day.
I love walking along the main bridge on campus, especially during the spring. The view of the bayou, especially when the sun hits the water, is very beautiful, and it is also relaxing. I think our campus is very unique because we have a body of water running all the way through it.
One of my favorite professors is Dr. HP Jones. He was my world civilization professor last year. I remember dreading my first day of class because history was one of my least favorite subjects. As soon as class started, my view on history quickly changed. Dr. Jones made the class fun, entertaining, and most of all, I actually wanted to learn about history. I enjoyed every class period, and I loved his great sense of humor. Most of all, he inspired me to go and see the rest of the world because we are only here for a short amount of time.
My favorite memory is going through recruitment and ultimately joining Phi Mu in the fall of 2007. I have made so many great friends, and I have a lot of wonderful memories. It encouraged me to get involved and become active on ULM's campus, and it taught me that college is not just about school and studying, but it's about making memories along the way.
ULM has taught me that getting good grades requires a lot of time, energy, and hard work. You don't just get grades, you earn them. I believe the more dedicated I am, the more successful I will be in the long run.
I came to ULM because my family is in Monroe, and it was really convenient to have a college right around the corner.
I am very lucky because I work right on campus. I can simply walk back and forth to work and class during the day. The hours I work fit around my school schedule, so it isn't stressful. School is first and work comes second, and people at my job understand that. I love my job, and I couldn't imagine working anywhere else.
