independent, wants to teach others
Kenneth Bartholomew of Hot Springs, Ark. is a 23-year-old graduate student working toward a master's degree in exercise science.
I am the oldest of two boys in my family.
Between work and school, I don't have a lot of time for extra curricular activities, but I do like to run, go to the gym, and play drums. I am a Grad Assistant in the Office of Marketing and Communications, and I also work at Abercrombie & Fitch.
I want to teach on the collegiate level, in an Exercise Science, Health, PhysEd, or Rec. Program. I enjoy learning about the body and ways to improve it; I want to teach others the same thing.
My favorite spot on campus is Starbucks. I love to get my morning started with a cup of coffee.
Two of my favorite professors are Dr. Lisa Colvin and Dr. Luke Thomas. Dr. Colvin helps emphasize the fact that learning should be fun, and Dr. Thomas teaches with lessons and stories from his life experiences.
One of my favorite memories is seeing the look on my mother's face when she and my dad moved me down here. She was awestruck at the size of campus and the beauty of the bayou.
Being from out of state, I have learned to be more independent and what it is like to be on my own.
I was fortunate enough to be granted a Graduate Assistant position; the fact that my education was going to be paid for was a very large factor in my attending ULM. Also, it was far enough from home to give me freedom, but close enough to travel home if necessary.
I am grateful to be working in the Division of University Advancement; they allow me to work at my own schedule. If I have homework, projects, or off-campus studies, they make sure that I take care of my grades first, then work.
