ULM online counseling degree named nation’s most affordable

The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s online master’s degree in school counseling has been named the nation’s most affordable degree of its type by BestCounselingDegrees.net.

The site notes the decline of available counselors with demand for services steadily increasing. It states, “School counselors are more important than ever, going beyond traditional roles to help students navigate an increasingly complex world by using appropriate strategies and coping skills.”

The site used various factors in its classification, including each university’s online education U.S. News and World Report ranking; accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and related Educational Programs; and in-state graduate tuition. A total of 166 schools were evaluated.

“This ranking sets our school counseling program apart from other nationally recognized programs and should increase our student enrollment from all over the nation,” said Dr. Damion Cummins, assistant professor of counseling, and director of ULM’s Community Counseling Clinic.

BestCounselingDegrees.net highlights ULM’s school counseling Master of Science degree as the most affordable in the nation with tuition at $5,046. The availability of employment opportunities for graduates, the overall curriculum, and the program’s practicum and internship experiences were featured in ULM’s ranking.

Auburn University, the University of Mississippi, and Kansas State University were also ranked in the top 10.
