ULM's VAPA hosts Brass Day on February 8

On Friday, February 8, the University of Louisiana Monroe School of Visual and Performing Arts will host the annual Brass Day, a free educational clinic for all brass players. Admission to all events is free.

Brass Day activities will include:

  • Performances and clinics by ULM Brass Faculty and Guest Artists Quintasonic Brass:
  • Vince DiMartino (International soloist)
  • Jason Dovel (faculty, University of Kentucky)
  • Matthew Haislip (faculty, Mississippi State University)
  • Alex Van Duuren (faculty University of Tennessee)
  • Alex Lapins (faculty, University of Tennessee
  • Exhibits and Horn Pedagogy Clinic Provided by Houghton Horns, a custom music store based in Keller, Texas.
  • Group warm-up sessions and Master Classes
  • Brass Choir and Small Ensemble Rehearsals and Performances

"We are excited to be able to feature not only our own ULM brass faculty, but also five world-class performers and teachers for this year's Brass Day" says Dr. James Boldin, Associate Professor of Music. "Brass Day is a comprehensive event geared towards musicians of all levels."

Registration for Brass Day begins at 12 p.m. in the lobby of Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall. Quintasonic Brass will present their recital at 1 p.m. in Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall, and the Finale Concert featuring participant ensembles is at 7 p.m. in Brown Auditorium.
