MONROE, LA – The University of Louisiana Monroe Cheer and Hawkline teams recently competed at the national level at separate events in Florida on April 7-8, 2023. The ULM Cheer team took home the championship at The College Classic Nationals Competition in the All Girl Cheer Division. ULM Hawkline placed 5th at the National Dance Alliance Competition in the D1A Division.

The ULM Cheer Team was competing for the first time at The College Classic Nationals Competition in Orlando, Fla., and won the championship in their division in a head-to-head competition against Baker University. The team is led by head coach Sammi Spivey and seniors Regan Digilormo, Faith Gaude, and Kayla LaCoste.

“Nationals season is always the most strenuous for us because it is the only time of year where we use our skills and talent to represent ULM Cheerleading instead of other groups on campus that we support year-round,” said Spivey. “Every athlete spends each day striving to be the best, and despite all efforts, few get there,” she added.

The ULM Cheer team includes Anna Bennett, Skylar Biggs, Madelyn Bozeman, Maribeth DeWitt, Regan Digilormo, Faith Gaude, Courtlyn Gremillion, Jessica Hale, Kayla Lacoste, Ashlee Lewis, Ella Mangrum, Kyleigh Nettles, Madelyn Whaley, and Tavia Wilson.

The ULM Hawkline team competed at the National Dance Alliance/National Cheer Alliance competition in Daytona Beach, Fla. in the D1A Division. This year, Hawkline was performing in the most competitive division at NDA, where they finished in 5th place ahead of larger schools like Ohio State, Indiana, Syracuse, Florida State, and NYU.

The Hawkline team improved on last year’s competition, in which they placed 16th. The 2023 team is led by coach Kayla Attaway and seniors Rachel Meredith and Carsyn Brasher.

“What an honor it is to coach these incredible talented dancers,” said Attaway. “Not only did we achieve our goal by making it to finals, but we placed 5th in the nation out of 16. We came in behind huge schools like BYU, Boise State, South Carolina, and Louisville. To see their reaction when we heard our name called out for finals will always be one of my favorite memories ever. Well done, Hawkline. The work was so worth it,” she added.

The ULM Hawkline team includes Mallory Bozeman, Carsyn Brasher, Jaylen Burkhalter, Christina Collins, Emily Eason, Daija Essien, Megan Ford, Kirsty Frantom, Molli Fuentes, Lajacia Hobbs, Hoover Lynn, Laura Mayfield, Rachel Meredith, Trinity Samuel, Lauren Speed, Emma Tatum, Madelina Trevino. Malinn Vogt, and Sydney Waldron.
