Suggestions
Here are a few suggestions for students making scientific podium presentations from
the MALTO Board.
Delivering the Presentation:
- Dress professionally - show respect for your work and your profession. Men should
wear a tie, suit coat or sports coat optional. Women should dress professionally.
Under no circumstances should a gentleman wear a hat or cap indoors.
- Use the microphone provided – the audience cannot appreciate your research if they
cannot hear your presentation.
- Maintain as much eye contact with your audience as possible while addressing your
slides. This gives you a distinct mark of confidence.
- Be aware that you are not in a race, so speak clearly, deliberately and distinctly.
- Remember, you know more about the research you are presenting than anyone in the audience
- be confident!
Final Slide Preparation Checklist
- Avoid including data on your slide that you don't discuss in your presentation, and
avoid compensating by racing through content - maintain a good steady pace.
- Avoid cluttering in your slides – it is generally better to have two slides with readable
information than one that is overly jam-packed with information, or unreadable.
Lastly - ENJOY this opportunity to present your work!
