The University
of Louisiana at Monroe has about 8,500 students pursuing a wide variety of
academic and professional degrees. Along with the university, our department
is growing and changing to meet the needs and challenges of the next century.
Currently we have approximately fifteen mathematics majors as well as a number
of mathematics education majors. We expect this number to grow with
the department, and we are actively recruiting mathematics majors from the
university as well as area high schools. Because of the size of our
program, our majors typically enjoy small class sizes and are able to work
closely with the mathematics faculty. Courses such as calculus, linear
algebra and differential equations are offered in a mathematics laboratory
equipped with state-of-the-art PCs, each providing the user with powerful
graphing and algebraic software. Graphing calculators and web-based
teaching tools are used extensively in all of our freshman level courses.
