Travel to Ireland with the ULM Band Department in 2009; first deposit due in April 2008

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Band Department announces a unique travel opportunity for March 2009. The band has been invited to participate in the activities surrounding St. Patrick’s Day in 2009—including the over 1,000-year-old St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Dublin.

Opportunities for participating in this once-in-a-lifetime trip will be offered first to current band members, alumni band members, interested members of the ULM community, and then interested members from the Monroe/West Monroe and surrounding communities. The total traveling party will be approximately 125 people.

The trip will begin on Thursday, March 12, 2009, with an afternoon departure from Dallas and ends with a return to Dallas on Thursday, March 19, 2009.

To secure a spot in the traveling party, a $200 deposit is required by April 15, 2008. Subsequent payments for the trip will be required in September and November of 2008, with final payment due in January of 2009.

In addition the parade, travelers will be treated to some of the ageless attractions of Ireland, which may include the Cliffs of Mohr, Bunratty Castle and village, Waterford, Galway, Cork, the Rock of Cashel, King John’s Castle, Kilmainham Jail, Trinity College, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and St. Michan’s Church. One of the main attractions of a visit to Ireland is the friendly and welcoming Irish people who absolutely love to see American bands in their parade.

The trip cost is projected at $1,999, which includes airfare, ground transportation, professional Irish bus drivers and guides, all sightseeing tours, six nights accommodation in first class/superior tourist class hotels (double occupancy), five full Irish breakfasts, three evening dinners at the hotel, a one-night stay in London following the Irish portion of the trip, one continental breakfast in London, porterage of one bag per person at hotels, and all local service charges, taxes, and gratuities, except gratuities to drivers and guides. There is an additional cost for travelers who desire single occupancy in the hotels. The exact final price for the trip will be determined once deposits are made and airline seats are booked.

For more information on this trip or to inquire about becoming a member of the traveling party, contact Derle Long at (318) 342-1594 or via email at long@ulm.edu. Information on this trip will be available at: www.ulm.edu/music/band/band.html

Are you a member of YOUR Alumni Association? Alumni staff hard at work on this year’s campaign

Last year nearly 10% of our alumni base paid their dues which helped your alumni association do so many things for your university. From sponsoring our 31 Ambassadors student group, to supporting ULM’s recruitment efforts, to tailgating for our athletic teams, to helping subsidize the cost of over 35 alumni events held across North America, to the launching of the Warhawk Network and more, your alumni association is hard at work helping ULM achieve its mission.

For us to exceed the tremendous progress we’ve enjoyed these last five years, we are going to need more of our alumni to financially support their alumni association. Dues are $25.00 for an individual alumnus, $35.00 for a married alumnus couple, and $500.00 for a lifetime membership!

I know it’s easy to put the dues letter to the side when it arrives but I ask you to put it on the top of your “to pay” stack! This year’s letter also includes a new update card that we ask you to mail back with your check. Please use the card to provide us any updated information.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to mail your check and know that your decision to join us in playing a vital role in the future of ULM is greatly appreciated.

You may also pay your dues online on our secure server at https://ssl.ulm.edu/giving/dues.html
