Kandace CauseyULM's Causey pitches no-hitter; first ever in Sun Belt Conference Tournament play

If there was any doubt that the ULM softball team belonged in the conference tournament it was quickly silenced by sophomore Kandace Causey. The Warhawks downed tournament-host Troy, 5-0, behind Causey's no-hitter at the Troy Softball Complex.

"Kandace was absolutely in the zone today," ULM softball head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill said. "I'm proud of the way we fought out there and against one of the better hitting teams in the conference we got the pitches that we needed. That was just an amazing performance in the circle from one of the conference's top pitchers."

With battery-mate Megan Miller providing the power with a pair of two-run bombs, Causey silenced the partisan Trojan crowd and fired the first no-hitter in the nine-year history of the Sun Belt Conference tournament.

Causey (W, 12-12) faced one batter over the minimum, fanning seven Trojans on an unbelievable 73 pitches. In a game that lasted only 1:16, Rocky Paige became the only Trojan to reach base after being sent to first on an inside pitch that clipped her jersey.

Rosemary Holloway-HillULM's Holloway-Hill wraps up exceptional year in softball play

The difference a year makes. Last year, while eight Sun Belt schools were battling it out in Murfreesboro, Tenn. trying to win a conference championship, ULM head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill got an early jump on the recruiting circuit with every intention to not be in the same position in 2008.

Nobody would envision where her Warhawks would be one year later.

The seventh-seeded Warhawks continued their strong team play in the conference tournament, downing No. 6 North Texas, 5-1, to advance to its first championship game since the 1997 Southland Conference season. ULM sits poised to claim its first Sun Belt Tournament Championship in any sport since joining the league as full members with one more win.

"It was our goal coming into the season and this tournament to be playing for the championship," ULM head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill said. "Our team is one game away of realizing our dream of playing in the NCAA Tournament and we want to make it a reality. This tournament has been a great team effort all around for an outstanding group of young women."

The dream run for the ULM softball team finally came to a close in the championship game against heavily favored Louisiana-Lafayette. The top-seeded Ragin' Cajuns used three big innings, including a trio of home runs, to power past the seventh-seeded Warhawks, 13-0. Playing in its first conference tournament since the 2002 season, ULM (22-37) advanced to the tournament's final game but couldn't overcome the high-powered ULL (46-12) offense.

After sophomore Kandace Causey (L, 13-13) retired the side in order in the top of the first, freshman Jessica Olguin reached first on a bunt single with one out in the bottom of the frame. Ashley Brignac (W, 27-6) fanned the next two and retired the next 12 to allow ULL to build the big lead.

Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Holly Tankersley led off the second with a towering home run to centerfield. Two batters later, Lana Bowers lined a homer to left center to make it a 3-0 lead and chase Causey. The Ragin' Cajuns would add an unearned run in the inning before senior Lindsay Rittenhouse (ND) could notch the third out.

Three Warhawks were named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament Team in junior catcher Megan Miller, sophomore pitcher Kandace Causey and freshman first baseman Molly McNeill.

ULM ends the year one win shy of reaching its first regional tournament since the 1997 season.

Congrats to our Warhawks softball team and to Coach Holloway-Hill!

Softball Re-cap . . .

Taylor Renshawvs Stephen F. Austin - Freshman Taylor Renshaw picked up a career-high three RBI, but the Warhawks softball team couldn't hold an early lead in falling 6-4 against Stephen F. Austin at the ULM Softball Complex.

Renshaw capped a three-run second inning with a two-RBI homer to straightaway centerfield to give the Warhawks a 3-0 early lead, but a run in the third and a trio of unearned ticks in the fifth moved the Lady Jacks in front for good.

"Taylor did a good job of getting us an early lead, but we had a melt down in the fifth inning," ULM softball head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill said. "We made too many mistakes and allowed them to get ahead. The big inning got us tonight."

Heather Fritzvs Northwestern State - Sophomore Kandace Causey and freshman Heather Fritz each tossed complete game shutouts and the ULM offense gave them just enough run support to wrap up a doubleheader sweep against in-state foe Northwestern State at the ULM Softball Complex.

The ULM duo combined to allow only eight singles and a total of 11 base runners to keep the Lady Demon hitters off balance. Causey and Fritz each posted double-digit strikeouts, combining for 22 in the series while allowing no free passes.

"I thought that our pitching was stellar today," ULM softball head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill said. "Both Kandace and Heather kept them off balance tonight and were pretty untouchable. Fritz really took command today and had probably her best start of the season."

ULM (17-27) struck fast in the opening game by scoring a run in the first frame. After senior Courtney Cleveland led off the game with a walk, she advanced to second on a single by freshman Jessica Olguin before coming home on an RBI single by freshman Brianna Love.

Junior Erica Darden picked up an RBI single in the fourth inning and junior Megan Miller added an RBI single in the fifth for the final 3-0 margin.

The slim lead would be all Causey (9-9) needed. The Denham Springs, La.-native posted her fifth game of 10 or more strikeouts after fanning 12 Lady Demons. Causey allowed only two hits in the game and saw only four runner's reach base. She has picked up the win in her last five starts dating back to the second game of the series against South Alabama.

The Warhawks used the big inning in frame No. 2 of the second game to build their lead before coasting to the finish on the arm of Fritz. ULM opened the inning with back-to-back singles and a walk before Northwestern State was able to tally their first out.

"We took advantage of the opportunities when they presented," Holloway-Hill said. "With the big inning and the way Heather was pitching, that was really all we needed."

vs Florida Atlantic - 3 Game Sun Belt Series held during Super Warhawk Weekend

The Warhawks softball team continued to hit the ball hard, but couldn't overcome a trio of three-run innings in dropping a doubleheader against Florida Atlantic at the ULM Softball Complex as part of Super Warhawk Weekend. ULM fell 6-3 in the opener before dropping a 3-2 game in the nightcap.

Freshman Brianna Love hit a solo homer in each game and the Warhawks combined to out hit the Owls by a 15-12 margin on the day. Love finished with a team-high four hits in seven plate appearances.

"Against the defending conference champions we fought back and I thought we played a good second game," ULM head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill said. "The breaks just didn't go our way tonight. We hit the ball well all night and I think we have a lot to build on."

Junior Megan Miller moved into sole possession of fifth place on the career home runs list, but a late surge by Florida Atlantic gave the visitors a 4-1 win over the Warhawks softball team at the ULM Softball Complex.

Miller's shot, her second of the season and 17th of her career, moved the Wichita, Kan.-native past Lindsey Taylor in the record book and tied the game score at 1-1.The Owls would push across the go ahead run in the sixth inning before scoring a pair in the seventh on a combination of close calls at the plate.

FAU (31-22, 13-6 Sun Belt) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning after a leadoff walk to Caitlyn Bliss came around to score on a two-out single by Becky Brandies. ULM (17-30, 7-11 Sun Belt) would tie the game in the bottom half of the frame behind the stretch of Miller's big bat.

vs LSU

Fans lined the outfield walls and packed the stands inside the ULM Softball Complex only to see a pair of big innings by the 15th-ranked LSU Tigers down the home standing Warhawks, 11-0 in a five-inning game.

A facility-record 608 fans came out to watch the Warhawks softball team host their in-state foe LSU for the first time in program history. The announced attendance was nearly double the previous record of 319 set during the 2000 season in a conference game against Texas-Arlington.

"Tonight was a great venue for college softball," ULM softball head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill said. "LSU might be used to that, but it was great for us to have this here. It was a great atmosphere and I know that the fans had a good time. Our team would love to play in front of that type of crowd every time."

ULM (17-31) registered its first and only hit of the game to lead off the third inning. Senior Calli Baker lined a Faile offering to left field. Freshman pinch runner Elyse Stark stole second before three straight outs stranded her in scoring position.

After being retired 1-2-3 in the fourth inning, the Tigers put seven straight on base with one out in the fifth including three via the hit batter. LSU ended the inning with five runners crossing the plate to push the advantage to double digits and invoke the eight-run rule.

The Warhawks were retired in order in the fifth to end the game.

at Florida International - 3 game Sun Belt Series

Brianna LoveGame 1 - Freshman Brianna Love hit her team-leading 10th home run of the season and scored four runs on the day for the ULM softball team, but Florida International used late offense to sweep a doubleheader at University Park in Miami, Fla. FIU won the opener 3-2 in 10 innings before winning 7-3 in the second game.

ULM (17-33, 7-13 Sun Belt) stranded 11 on base over the two games including six in scoring position. Florida International (27-30, 11-9 Sun Belt) took advantage of their opportunities and scored in seven straight innings spanning from the final frame of the opening game through all six played in the second game.

The Warhawks jumped out to an early lead by scoring a single run in the opening frame. Love was hit by a Kasey Barrett (ND) offering to lead off the inning before advancing to second base on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Jessica Olguin. The next batter, freshman Molly McNeill, laced a double into left centerfield for a 1-0 lead.

Two innings later, Love extended the lead to 2-0 with a solo homer over the left field fence. The shot by Love, her 10th of the season, moved her into a tie with Casey Goodman for the most homers hit by a ULM freshman.

FIU would tie the game in the fourth inning at 2-2 after Monique White took a Kandace Causey pitch over the left field fence for a pair of RBI.

Game 2 - In the second game it was the Golden Panthers that jumped out to the early lead. FIU plated one run in each of the first two frames to stake an early 2-0 lead. The Warhawks would cut the lead in half in the top of the third inning after junior Megan Miller hit an RBI single to centerfield to plate Love from second.

FIU would push the lead back to two runs after an RBI single in the bottom half of the frame by Ana Murga. The two squads traded single runs in the fourth inning with ULM picking up a sacrifice fly from senior Calli Baker to cut it to 3-2 only to see FIU push it back to a two run advantage.

Senior Jamie Liles once again made it a one-run game after hitting an RBI single up the middle to bring home Love and make the score 4-3 in the top of the fifth. A solo homer by Amanda Cox in the bottom half pushed the FIU advantage to 5-3.

Game 3 - The ULM softball team came one step closer to clinching a spot in the Sun Belt Conference tournament after defeating Florida International in the final game of the series in Miami, Fla., 3-2. ULM (18-33, 8-13 Sun Belt) now only needs a loss by South Alabama in the finale of its series against Western Kentucky to clinch a spot in the league tournament for the first time since the 2002 season.

The Warhawks started hot after retiring the Golden Panthers in the opening frame. Sophomore starter Kandace Causey (W, 10-11) picked up three outs, including a pair of strikeouts, on only seven pitches.

In the second inning, junior Megan Miller put the Warhawks on the board after leading off the frame with her third home run of the season deep to left centerfield. ULM added two more unearned runs in the frame without a hit for an early 3-0 lead.

Shanna Swillievs Louisiana Tech - Senior Shanna Swillie came in relief to shut down Louisiana Tech, but a three-run offensive outburst to open the game proved to be too much for the Warhawk softball team in a 3-0 loss at the ULM Softball Complex.

Louisiana Tech (30-26) secured their first winning season since 1999 after sweeping the five-game regular season series against ULM (18-34). Swillie (ND) came on in relief of Warhawk starter Heather Fritz (L,3-5) in the second inning and scattered six hits and five walks through six innings to give ULM a chance. The damage had already been done and the Warhawks were unable to overcome the early scores

The Lady Techsters got the offense rolling early with a pair of runs in the first frame for a 2-0 lead. A lead off single by Emma Barnes and a sacrifice bunt put LT in business and set the stage for a one-out RBI single by Amberly Waits. After Waits was caught stealing, Kylie Bassett tripled before coming home on an RBI single by Krissi Oliver.

In the second inning, Megan Granger reached on a fielding error before advancing to second on a throwing error. The LT base runner advanced to third on a base hit to center before scoring on a single by Heather Doiron to chase Fritz.

Louisiana Tech stranded 12 base runners including seven in scoring position and had three thrown out at the plate on balls hit to the ULM outfielders.

Oliver (W, 15-13) earned the complete game victory after scattering three hits and fanning six on an economical 81 pitches.

at UL Lafayette - 2 Game Sun Belt Series

Game 1 - Behind a complete game shutout by sophomore Kandace Causey, the ULM softball team snapped a 20-game home win streak by No. 16 Louisiana-Lafayette to force a series-opening split at Cajun Park in Lafayette, La. ULM won the opening game, 1-0, before falling in the finale, 9-1.

In game one Causey (W, 11-11) allowed no runs and passed the 200-mark for career strikeouts after fanning four. The Ragin' Cajuns managed only six hits against the Warhawk-hurler, but none left the infield.

"Kandace pitched a great game for us today," ULM softball head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill said. "She was able to dig deep when she was in a hole and come away with the complete game win today. We were able to keep ULL guessing and they only got a few bunt singles. I was proud of the way our defense picked Kandace up and of course she did the rest."

In the second game, Causey (L, 11-12) started the game, but left after 2/3 of an inning after allowing a trio of runs. The final blow for the Denham Springs, La.-native was a two-run homer to centerfield by Melissa Verde. After Love reached with a leadoff single, Louisiana-Lafayette starter Ashley Brignac fanned the next six batters.

Lindsay RittenhouseULL extended its second-game lead to 6-0 after plating a trio of runs against Warhawk reliever Lindsay Rittenhouse, including two that were unearned.

ULM would get a run back in the top of the fourth inning after freshman Jessica Olguin reached on an error before stealing second base. The Yorba Linda, Calif.-native advanced to third on a groundout by junior Megan Miller before coming home on a base hit through the right side by Darden.

Game 2 - The ULM softball team struggled to find the strike zone early against No. 16 Louisiana-Lafayette in a 10-0 final against in Lafayette, La. in the league set finale at Cajun Park. ULM (19-36, 9-15 Sun Belt) walked four in the opening inning, including three of the first four batters, and committed a pair of errors to allow the Ragin' Cajuns to build a 7-0 lead after one frame. ULL (42-12, 19-3 Sun Belt) picked up only three hits in the opening inning.

ULM softball draws Florida Atlantic in opening round of Sun Belt Conference Tournament

After clinching a spot in the conference tournament for the first time since the 2002 season, the Warhawk softball team's quest for its first title begins against defending tournament champion and second-seeded Florida Atlantic.

Molly McNeillULM (19-36, 9-15 Sun Belt) was swept in a close series against FAU (35-24, 17-7 Sun Belt) that featured multiple controversial plays at the plate. The Warhawks dropped the first game of the series 6-3, before falling 3-2 in the second game and 4-1 in the finale.

Thanks to a game-tying homer by freshman Molly McNeill, the ULM softball team provided the early storyline in the Sun Belt Conference tournament after upsetting defending champion Florida Atlantic in the opening round, 5-4, at the Trojan Softball Complex in Troy, Ala. ULM (20-36) entered the league's championship as the seventh seed and faced a staunch opening round test in Florida Atlantic (35-25) and second-team all-conference selection Amber Barton.

"We never doubted that we wouldn't get the first win," ULM softball head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill said. "It is hard to come back from behind as late as it was. This win is a testament to our team. It sets us up for a good tournament because our team knows we can overcome anything. It was just an awesome team effort."

ADs Corner

Bobby StaubDear Warhawk Fans,

What a great spring it has been! As it all draws to a close this month, it's amazing to look back on what took place here over the past couple of months.

The softball season is over, but the Warhawks made an incredible run through the Sun Belt Conference championship tournament. Entering the tournament as the No. 7 seed, the Warhawks upended the defending champion Florida Atlantic in their opening game, defeated tournament host Troy in the second round and then beat North Texas to advance to the championship game where they fell to ULL. But a runner-up finish is a lot to be proud of and we send out congratulations to head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill and her team.

We hosted our first-ever Sun Belt Conference championship when the tennis tournaments were played in Raymond Heard Stadium last month. We received many compliments from visiting teams and fans about our facility, campus and community. That event was part of Super Warhawk Weekend which was also a big hit. I hope you had the opportunity to take part and enjoyed the many events that were offered. It was certainly an action-packed weekend.

Track and field competed in the Sun Belt Conference championship meet last weekend and brought individual champions in the high jump (Heather Davis) and javelin (Kyle Kent). The Warhawks are now preparing for the NCAA regionals where Destiny Montemayor (hammer and discus) will join Davis and Kent to represent ULM.

Our inaugural "Night of Champions" fundraiser was a big success. We raised over $75,000 that will be earmarked for scholarships. There were many people who went the extra mile in making our first Night of Champions successful - from the attendees to those who donated items for the auction to our gracious hosts - and I want to offer a special thanks to all.

Baseball is finishing up its regular season and will begin play in the Sun Belt Conference championship tournament next week. The tournament will take place in Lafayette and begins on May 21. I hope you can make plans to go and cheer for the Warhawks. Also, please watch for upcoming news from Alumni about a tailgating event in Lafayette during the tournament.

It's been a great year. Thanks to all of you for your support.

GO WARHAWKS!

Women's Basketball

ULM women's basketball signs Mississippi prep standout Marion Zollicoffer

ULM women's basketball head coach Mona Martin announced the signing of Marion Zollicoffer to a National Letter of Intent to begin playing for the Warhawks this upcoming season. Zollicoffer averaged 22.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 4.0 steals and 5.1 blocks per game last year as a senior at Thomastown Attendance Center in Carthage, Miss.

"We are very excited to have Marion joining our basketball family," Martin said. "She is very athletic and can play both the three and four positions on the floor. She adds a lot of height and quickness to our lineup and is very versatile with the ability to shoot the three, drive the lane and post up."

The 6-foot-1 Zollicoffer received offers from several schools including South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette after shooting 66 percent from the floor and 77 percent from the free throw line last season.

Zollicoffer joins Nicole Tucker of Tyler Grace High School (Texas), Elie Torres of Fossil Ridge High School (Texas) and Portia Tucker of Senatobia High School (Miss.) in this year's recruiting class.

The Warhawks finished the 2007-08 campaign 17-12 overall and 10-8 in their second season in the Sun Belt Conference.

Warhawk basketball adds Hill and Forbes for 2008-09 season

Junior college wings Dynile Forbes and Jarvis Hill made it official by signing their national letters of intent to play for head coach Orlando Early and the ULM men's basketball team. The pair will join the Warhawks for the 2008-09 season.

The duo, along with returning transfer Lawrence Gilbert, are expected to step in and immediately fill the offensive void left by the graduation of seniors Lance Brasher, Jonas Brown and Jordan Payne.

Forbes joins the Warhawks after an All-American sophomore season for Cochise College in Arizona that saw him averaged better than 20 points and four rebounds per game. He was named Player of the Year in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference after connecting on 47 percent of his shots from the floor - including 41 percent from beyond the arc.

A native of Freeport, Bahamas, Forbes averaged better than 19 points per game as a freshman.

"We are very excited about adding Dynile to the program," Early said. "He is a guy who can really score the ball. He was a Second Team Junior College All-American and comes in here as the type of guy who can score from all areas on the court."

Hill, a 6-2 wing from Starkville, Miss., joins the Warhawks after playing the last season at East Mississippi Community College. While at EMCC he averaged 15.1 points, five rebounds and just under two assists per game.

Prior to his season at EMCC, Hill played one year at Southern Miss where he averaged 7.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. In 31 games with USM, Hill averaged better than 24 minutes per game, the fourth-most on the team, and made nine starts.

A Starkville, Miss.-native, he was recruited by Tennessee and Auburn after playing one season at Bridgton (Maine) Academy. Multiple other SEC schools showed recruiting interest in him after his stay at the prep school and as a senior at Starkville HS.

"Jarvis has already shown that he can compete and is good at scoring around the basket," Early said. "He is a good rebounder and a glue guy - he is going to guard the other teams best offensive player night in and night out and do a good job."

Hill and Forbes join a 2008 class that includes early signee Brandon Williams of Aldine High School in Houston, Texas, and sophomore Lawrence Gilbert who will become eligible to compete with the Warhawks after transferring from Miami (Fla.) prior to the 2007-08 season.

"I like to talk about Lawrence with this class because he sat out last year," Early said. "He kind of replaces Lance Brasher, but gives us five or six more inches at that position. He is a guy who can post up, score of the dribble and give us good offense. His best asset is that he is a good teammate."

ULM is looking to rebound from a season in which they finished 10-21 overall and 4-14 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Warhawk basketball adds Malcolm Thomas to 2008-09 class

The ULM men's basketball team added to an already strong class when they added the versatile Malcolm Thomas to the squad, head coach Orlando Early announced.

"Malcolm Thomas is a big time, Sun Belt Conference caliber athlete," Early said. "He is a talented player who was on one of the best junior college teams in Texas. He can play inside and out and brings the same kind of toughness that Lance Brasher brought to us, only with a little more athleticism."

Thomas joins junior college transfers Dynile Forbes and Jarvis Hill as the Warhawks signings during the spring signing period.

Standing at 6-6 and capable of playing either the guard or forward position, Thomas was one of four players on his Tyler Junior College squad to score in double-digits after pouring in 14.1 per game as a sophomore.

"He is long and a big time athlete," Early said. "He is going to make a difference in the Sun Belt Conference immediately as an athlete. He has the quickness and physical strength that will allow him to be an impact player at this level."

As a senior at Karmack HS (Texas) Thomas averaged 24 points and nine rebounds per game to go along with five assists and four steals. He was named 19-1A Most Valuable Player before starting his career at TJC.

Thomas also received recruiting interest from Iowa State before casting his lot with the Warhawks.

ULM's spring commencement is scheduled for Saturday afternoon when the Warhawks will be playing at Creighton in their final regular season game of the season.

"We want to make sure that student-athletes who are still in competition during commencement have the entire experience while they are here at ULM," President Cofer said. "They deserve to be conferred and walk in front of their family."

The Warhawks are currently tied for first place in the Sun Belt Conference after being picked to finish eighth by the league coaches prior to the season.

"We are very proud of them for what they have accomplished on the field and in the classroom," ULM director of athletics Bobby Staub said. "I have been at ULM for five years and I am one of the first from my family to graduate which is very exciting," Fortenberry said. Jennings, a left-handed pitcher from Shreveport, La., received his bachelor's of science degree in kinesiology from the College of Education and Human Development.

"This is very special and I appreciate having the opportunity to have this ceremony so my family could come watch me graduate," Jennings said. "It's a big relief to not have to worry about school as we get ready for the final few weeks of the season and try to win a championship."

Siggers, an outfielder from Galveston, Texas, received degrees in finance and accounting from the College of Business Administration.

"It was really nice to have my teammates here with me," Siggers said. "I never thought this day would come and now that it's finally here and to finish with two degrees is really exciting."

"I am so proud of all of them," ULM baseball head coach Jeff Schexnaider said. "It's such a tough situation to both compete in athletics and do well in school and today is a tribute to their dedication for all of their hard work."

ULM tennis falls in opening round, 4-1

Despite enjoying the home court advantage, the Warhawk women's team couldn't overcome a slow start in falling in the opening round of the Sun Belt Tennis hampionship against Arkansas State, 4-1, at Heard Stadium on the campus of ULM.

After a lengthy rain delay and an hour to dry the courts the Warhawks and ASU were able to begin play at 3 p.m. Arkansas State (13-9) jumped out early, claiming two of the three doubles matches before the two squads moved on to singles.

"Sharon MakhanyaThis was a tough day to play in with all the delays and the weather," ULM head coach Terrence De Jongh said. "I think we were a little tight in the beginning and just couldn't fight our way out of it. Arkansas State is a strong team and unfortunately we couldn't take advantage of a good opportunity."

Junior Sharon Makhanya tied the overall score at 1-1 after picking up a 6-3, 6-2 straight set victory at No. 6 singles.

Arkansas State would answer back and take the next three singles matches to claim the match. ASU picked up wins at No. 3, No. 1 and No. 4, respectively.

We are so thankful of the entire athletic department and Bobby Staub for helping us to host what has already been a great event," De Jongh said. ULM women's tennis earns perfect APR score by NCAA

The NCAA released its annual Academic Progress Rate (APR) report and the ULM women's tennis team received a perfect score of 1,000 for the 2006-07 school year.

The womens basketball, women's golf and softball programs all exceeded the NCAA benchmark score, while the volleyball, men's outdoor track & field and men's indoor track & field teams received notice for a historical penalty based on their average APR scores for the past four seasons.

An APR score is designed to measure the academic eligibility, retention and graduation of an institution's student-athletes and its teams.

Bobby Staub"We are pleased with how our programs measured against this standard, particularly with the perfect score achieved by our tennis team," ULM director of athletics Bobby Staub said. "We have implemented a number of different programs and events to further improve the success of our student-athletes to coincide with those already in place."

ULM hosted its inaugural Night of Champions auction last Thursday night raising over $75,000. The funds generated from that event are earmarked to supplement summer school opportunities for Warhawk student-athletes.

"The Night of Champions was a tremendous success and is just one part of what we are doing to help our student-athletes succeed in the classroom," Staub said.

The state-of-the-art ULM Student Success Center is scheduled to open this August with individual study rooms, group study rooms and computer labs which will allow ULM's student-athletes a greater advantage in the classroom.

In addition to the new ULM Student Success Center, the ULM Student-Athlete Academic Services department was awarded a grant from the NCAA allowing its staff to pursue further professional development. The advanced training that the ULM academic counselors will receive through the grant will benefit the ULM student-athletes tremendously in the classroom.

ULM had 92 student-athletes named to the Sun Belt Commissioner's List (3.5 or better grade point average) and Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll (3.0-3.49 GPA) last year. Additionally, 124 student-athletes were named to the AD's Honor Roll in the fall semester, recognizing them for semester GPAs greater than a 3.0.
