General Studies

A Flexible Degree:  The General Studies program offers a unique challenge for continued self-improvement and for career enhancement. The flexibility of the program makes this degree available to the student with some college experience and a wide range of interests.

In addition to the traditional curriculum outlined below, both a two-year Associate of General Studies Degree and a four-year Bachelor of General Studies Degree with concentrations in Sociology and Business are available online making it possible to finish a degree while you work and take care of your family. 

Associate of General Studies:  An Associate of General Studies Degree requires a minimum of 65 semester hours, 44 of which must be earned in core courses.

Bachelor of General Studies:  A minimum of 125 semester hours is required for a Bachelor of General Studies Degree.

Administration:  While pursuing the General Studies curricula, students are enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Associate Degree Requirements

a. Minimum semester hours required for degree:  65

b. Minimum C (2.0) grade point average required on:

(1)                   All semester hours applied to degree

(2)                   All courses in Major Thematic Concentration Group

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

a. Minimum semester hours required for degree:  125

b. Minimum C (2.0) grade point average required on:

(1)                   All semester hours applied to degree

(2)                   All courses in Major Thematic Concentration Group

(3)                   All 300-and 400-level courses

c. Junior/Senior Courses:  45 hours

(1)                   300-400 level:  30 hours

     (2)                   400 level:  15 hours

d. Of the 30 hours required in the Major Thematic Concentration, 12 hours must be at the Junior-Senior level.

Baccalaureate students pursuing major concentrations in groups I, II, and III must complete 6 hours of one foreign language either as elective hours or as part of a concentration effective Fall 1999.

Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Geoscience, Marine Science, Mathematics, Physical Science, Physics

GROUP 3 (SOCIAL SCIENCES -- Available through ULM Gold On-line)

Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Economics (100-299), Education, Geography, Political Science, Kinesiology (professional courses only) Psychology, Social Work, Sociology

GROUP 4 (BUSINESS -- -- Available through ULM Gold On-line)

Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems, Economics (300-499), Entrepreneurship, Finance, Insurance, Management, Marketing, Quantitative Methods AACSB accreditation require­ments limit College of Business Administration credits which may be applied toward graduation in General Studies Curricula to 15 semester hours for the Associate degree and 30 semester hours for the Bachelor's degree.
