University of Louisiana at Monroe Electronic Learning Policy

A. General Library Information
The purpose of the Library, as adopted by the Library Faculty, is to support the teaching, research, and service programs of the University. This shall be accomplished through instruction, networking, and access using the appropriate technology, acquisition, organization and maintenance of necessary information resources. The University Library shall also provide the optimum learning environment for its diverse users. For information on library hours the following website may be accessed at http://www.ulm.edu/library/.

B. Library Resources
The resources of the library include 637,640 print volumes, including 195,605 state and federal documents, 2,941 serial subscriptions, and 564,623 volumes in microformat. The library is a member of AMIGOS, which enables cataloging and bibliographic verification and interlibrary loan to be done via computer terminals connected online to the system headquarters. NEON, the Library's electronic catalog, is part of LOUIS, the state wide academic library catalog network. Being part of LOUIS, the library also has access to EBSCOhost that provides access to bibliographic references to more than 7,000 journals. Many of these are also available in electronic text format once the bibliographic reference is located for the article. In addition, LOUIS provides access to other bibliographic and abstracting sources.

All are welcome to use the resources of the University Library. To borrow library materials, one must have a valid ID card or be enrolled in a cooperative program offered by other institutions.

C. Articles, Indexes, and Database
All students who are taking courses at the University of Louisiana at Monroe are eligible to use EBSCOhost for access to abstracts, indexes, and full-text journal access. Use the following instructions to gain access to this service.

  1. Go to http://www.ulm.edu/library/.
  2. Click on EBSCOhost: abstracts, indexes, full-text journal access on the left-hand side of the website.
  3. The Student Identification Number is your social security number with no spaces or dashes.
  4. The PIN Code is the month and year of your birth date. Example: 0673 (June of 1973).
  5. Choose University of Louisiana at Monroe in the drop down menu and click Authenticate.
