COREY TRAHAN has over 40 roles in his repertoire, and is an active performer in opera, oratorio, music theatre, operetta and recital venues and has recently transitioned from singing lyric baritone roles to character tenor repertoire. He made his Bass Hall debut with the Fort Worth Opera in a critically acclaimed performance as Taddeo in Rossini’s “L’italiana in Algeri”; his recital debut at Los Angeles’ Madrid Theatre; and his debut with Cumberland Theatre in Shenandoah.Corey has soloed with the Akron Symphony, Lake Charles Symphony, Shreveport Symphony, Brazos Symphony, Monroe Symphony, and Houston Masterworks. He recently reprised his signature role of Papageno in ULM’s production of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” and toured a production of “Celebrating Sinatra,” with soprano Lisa McCalmon, to 14 venues. Corey is a member of the Louisiana Trio, who received a Challenge America Grant in 2002. He also serves the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council as a Visiting Artist and a member of its two additional resident touring ensembles. Through this organization, Corey performs 20-30 concerts annually. He just completed a two-year assignment as the Biedenharn Endowed Chair in Music at ULM where he was director of Opera Workshop and taught private voice, vocal pedagogy and the history of opera. Corey’s recent honors include: receiving the 2006 Outstanding Artist of the Year Award, winning the Strauss Theatre’s 2006 Best Lead Actor in a Musical for “Singin’ in the Rain” (Don Lockwood), and having the cities of Monroe and West Monroe proclaim May 21, 2006 “Corey Trahan Day” for his contributions to the arts and community. Upcoming engagements for 2006-07 include: return visits to Louisiana to perform with “We Three Kings” for a Holiday Concert Tour to seven venues; guest vocalist for the Monroe Symphony Orchestra’s Winter Pops Concert; a “Hooray for Hollywood” concert tour with Lisa McCalmon to nine venues; guest vocalist for the Twin Cities Ballet Company’s presentation of Ballet Under the Stars; a return to Des Moines Metro Opera for their 2007 summer season in productions of “Carmen” (Remendado) and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (Snout); and a debut with Louisiana Lyric Opera in their inaugural season productions of “Little Shop of Horrors” (Seymour) and “Pirates of Penzance” (Sergeant of Police). Corey received a bachelor’s degree in music from Louisiana State University and a master’s degree in music from the University of Houston, both in voice performance. He has been an apprentice with Lake George Opera, Central City Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Amarillo Opera, Shreveport Opera and the Seagle Music Colony. He is a current member of the American Guild of Music Artists, Actor’s Equity Association and National Association of Teachers of Singing. Since moving to New York City in 2006, Corey has performed the roles of Schaunard in Puccini’s “La Boheme” and the Magistrate in Pasatieri’s “Signor Deluso,” participated in performances of Prokofiev’s “Alexander Nevsky” with the New York Philharmonic in Avery Fisher Hall and Shotakovich’s “Babi Yar” conducted by Valery Gergiev of Russia’s Mariinsky Theatre, and began vocal studies with Mark Oswald.
