Mascot Selection Timeline
The Mascot Committee has established a timeline of action events for the mascot selection process. The timeline is broken into three (3) phases. Any future dates are subject to change.
PHASE I
DATE ACTION
January 4, 2006

Initial charge to Mascot Committee to recommend one of three options.

Janaury 25, 2006

Mascot Committee makes recommendation to President Cofer.

PHASE II
DATE ACTION
February 8, 2006

Committee reformed and expanded with new charge involving simultaneous processes, some of which should be public and others private.  These include engaging a marketing consultant, creating a new identity for athletics, and implementing a brand.

February 13-22, 2006

Agency presentations/design proposals made to marketing subcommittee.

February 22, 2006

Recommendation to full committee that four subcommittees of seven members each be formed to nominate up to ten (10) semi-finalists.  Those subcommittees would begin meeting on March 1 and report their findings on March 8.

Collegiate Licensing Corporation (CLC) & marketing subcommittee to recommend to committee a design firm for approval.  CLC rep to come to campus to discuss best choice with full committee.

March 1, 2006

Complete list of mascot suggestions from the public in alphabetical order provided to committee. Committee divides into four (4) independent subcommittees to narrow list to a maximum of ten (10) semi-finalists per subcommittee.

March 8, 2006

Semi-finalist subcommittees report draft of semi-finalists for committee.

March 9 - 10 , 2006

CLC to conduct initial online trademark search to confirm availability.

March 20 - 31, 2006

Online polling for mascot finalists.

April 5, 2006 With guidance of marketing firm & CLC, committee to discuss & vote on new mascot.  President Cofer and committee will then meet together to evaluate and consider the mascot committee’s vote.
April 5 - June 26, 2006 Subcommittee on campus rollout begins planning for June 26, 2006 unveiling and campus implementation. Discussions to include: signage, retail promotion, media plan, communication with constituents, athletic uniforms, files for release, graphics, etc.
June 5, 2006 Mascot Committee officially approves final Warhawk logos, wordmarks, mascot and associated imagery.
PHASE III
DATE ACTION
June 26, 2006 Unveiling of new mascot.
June 26 - December 31, 2006 Continuation of Warhawks implementation across campus.
