Major Audition Requirements
Students auditioning for admission into a music degree curriculum as a string major should be prepared to perform, at acceptable standards, repertoire at the representative level of difficulty as indicated by the following:
Violin:
- an etude of Kreutzer
- demonstrated fluency in 3-octave scales and arpeggios in all keys
- a sonata of Handel
- two contrasting movements of a concerto of Mozart
Viola:
- an etude of Campagnola
- two contrasting movements of the Telemann Concerto
- 3-octave scales and arpeggios
Cello:
- An etude of Popper
- two contrasting movements of a Sammartini sonata
- 3-octave scales and arpeggios
String Bass:
- An etude of Simandl
- two contrasting movements of a Marcello sonata
- 2-octave scales and arpeggios.
