The Arts play a unique and critical role in the fabric of our community life. Through the Arts, an individual or a group can celebrate the joy and anguish of the human experience, and express and contemplate ideas and values. Embracing this role, the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council pursues a dual mission - serving the Arts and serving the community. The Council addresses the needs of the artists and arts organizations who make and present the visual, performing, and literary arts in our community by offering training, regranting, and advocacy services.
Through our publications, regrants, and education programs, the Arts Council provides access and opportunities to more than 308,000 residents in the regional communities to experience the Arts. Founded and incorporated in 1979, the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council was established as the vehicle to provide an eleven-parish area with coordination and programming services for the Arts.
Through our appointment as one of the eight Regional Distributing Agencies charged with the administration of the
Louisiana Division of the Arts Decentralized Arts Funding Program by the State Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism, the State of Louisiana recognizes the Council as its authorized provider of technical assistance and as the official Arts coordinating agency for the 55+ organizations of Region Eight.
