For well over a year, the ULM Retention Committee, comprised of faculty, staff, and students, and under the direction of committee chair Frances Gregory, has worked to develop the Retention Plan for our university. The plan, wide in scope and focused on the enhancement of life and learning of the ULM student body, is the result of the time and effort of the committee and others called upon as task force members. Committee members devoted a lot of energy to insure that the plan covered every aspect of student life, from admission to graduation and beyond. They identified access, engagement, success, and student-centeredness as ULM retention priorities. Once the plan was established, committee members met and communicated with faculty and staff across campus to discuss the plan and its objectives. Cynthia Bratton, CASS Director, has been serving as Retention Coordinator and has worked tirelessly to ensure that students’ needs remain the focus of the policy. The committee also continues to play an active role in retention by updating the plan and serving as an advisory body to the interim director of retention. In this capacity they examine new avenues for student engagement and constantly reassess what is in place to meet ever-changing needs. A list of the members of the Retention Committee follows. We thank these dedicated individuals for their commitment to the success of all ULM students.
