    • 8,541 undergraduate and graduate students from 64 Louisiana parishes, 44 states and 54 countries attend ULM.

    Economic Development

    • ULM’s Northeast Louisiana Business and Community Development Center enhances the economic vitality of northeast Louisiana by focusing on entrepreneurship and by offering community development services. ULM College of Business experts share knowledge and resources with rural communities, nurture entrepreneurs, and help small businesses flourish.

    • ULM acquired a five-year grant totaling $5,315,894 that will fund TEACH Delta Region— a project that will attract talented, qualified teachers to Louisiana-Mississippi Delta region classrooms. The U.S. Office of Innovation and Improvement awarded the grant, a collaborative project between ULM and Jackson State University in Jackson, Miss.

    • ULM’s GOLD (Gateway to Online Degrees) and CALL (Continuum for all Louisiana Learners) online degree programs enable adult learners to utilize the convenience of online learning to earn a college degree and to enhance Louisiana’s work force.

    • ULM launched the bachelor of science in health studies—the only program of its kind in the state—answering Louisiana’s workforce need for talented, trained professionals and managers in health care.

    Quality On The Rise

    • An ambitious visionary plan that began in 2002 includes more than $70 million in new construction and renovations on campus. Students enjoy the newest, up-to-date residence halls, state-of-the-art SMART classrooms and labs, and a completely-renovated Student Union Building.

    • Student satisfaction has exceeded both the national and the University of Louisiana System averages.

    • Average ACT score of full-time beginning freshman and entire student body continues to climb.

    • Students in pharmacy and the health sciences consistently pass national licensure examinations at rates ranging from 92% to 100%, much higher than national averages.

    Points of Pride

    • ULM’s kinesiology department received a $1 million, 3-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to improve student fitness.

    • The Science Education Alliance of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) chose ULM as one of 12 colleges and universities to participate in a national genomics research initiative.

    • ULM's College of Pharmacy, with satellite campuses in Baton Rouge and Shreveport, has been invited to explore the possibilities of academic and research collaboration with a sister Chinese medical institution and hospital in Jingzhou, China.

    • A biology professor and his graduate student guided a film crew on a tour of Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge and its inhabitants, Alligator Snapping Turtles. Their research was televised on Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet.

    • An Australian pharmaceutical company awarded a pharmacy professor more than $1 million to research the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

    • A geosciences professor and his students are creating a pipeline Geographic Information System — the first in northern Louisiana — that companies will use to reduce the risk of pipeline-related disasters.

    • A biology professor secured a $130,846 National Science Foundation grant that will allow students to gain international medical research internships in Chile and Macronesia.

    • The state’s only professional summer stock theatre, ULM’s Louisiana Lyric Opera, was inducted into the World Cultural Economic Forum, an initiative of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism.

    • The ULM Water Ski Team and the ULM Cheerleaders are reigning national champions.

    Athletics

    • ULM’s football team was the only Sun Belt Conference team to defeat two teams that played in bowl games; ULM was the lone Sun Belt Conference school to defeat a member of the Southeastern Conference with a 21-14 victory over Alabama.

    • ULM’s football team set an attendance record with over 30,000 fans in a game against Grambling State University.

    • ULM broadcast two games on ESPN: the football season-opener against Tulsa and the men’s basketball game against South Alabama.
