A state botanist led a recent “Plant Identification Workshop" for National Wildlife Refuge state employees at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Chris Reid, a botanist with the Natural Heritage Program in the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, focused on grass and sedge identification during the workshop.

Reid is a University of Louisiana at Monroe graduate whose current position entails identifying, locating, and protecting Louisiana's rare and endangered plants.

Plant identifications assist in important conservation efforts including wetland delineation, bottomland restoration, and ecological remediation projects across Louisiana.

The workshop was held in the herbarium inside the Museum of Natural History, located on the third floor of Sandel Hall on the ULM campus.
