Summary/Paraphrase 2:  Write a summary/paraphrase of a magazine article

 

Find a 10-15 page source from the library, the web, or Lexis - Nexus that comes from one of the following magazines:

 

  • Atlantic Monthly

  • CommonWeal

  • The Nation

  • The Economist

 

 

  • Harper's Magazine
  • The Christian Science Monitor
  • Mother Jones
  • The New Republic
  • Utne
  • More to be listed.

 

Follow the model for the first summary-paraphrases you did with the following qualifications:

Post the document in your Blackboard Digital Dropbox.  Don't forget: 

Dropping off finished work

 

Turn in a hardcopy of the summary/paraphrase and a photocopy of the original article with your reading marks and annotations.

 

Rubric:

Does the summary/paraphrase accurately reflect the ideas of the original?

Does the summary/paraphrase follow the instructions above and in previous summary/paraphrase practices to the letter?

Is the summary clear and to the point and able to stand alone as if it were a tiny little independent essay?

Are the grammar/mechanics taken care of?

This is the end of the summary/paraphrase practice sequence.  Most of your writing from this point forward should focus on your chosen semester topic.
