Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate research is key in strengthening students' interests in careers in science and better preparing them for the challenges of graduate school.  To broaden participation in research, the University of Louisiana - Monroe, through funding from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, is offering fifteen Undergraduate Research Awards and two Summer Research Awards each year.  The emphases of the undergraduate research experience will be to:

    1. involve students in serious scientific inquiry;
    2. facilitate deeper understanding of one focused

        area of science;
    3. expose students to the research methods and discipline

        needed for graduate studies.

These awards are available to ULM students majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics.  High quality research is central to the program, and we focus on engaging students in scientifically challenging projects tailored to their abilities.

Research opportunities exist for students both during the fall and spring semesters as well as in the summer.

A number of research topics are readily available through the Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics Departments.  Please contact these respective departments regarding prospective faculty sponsors and projects.

For more information on the fall and spring programs, follow the link to Undergraduate Research Awards.  To learn more about the two summer positions available simply follow the Summer Program link.
