Incumbent Worker Training Program

Did you know?

The University of Louisiana Monroe is an approved training provider for Incumbent Worker Training Program (IWTP) funded training. This means that eligible employers may utilize IWTP dollars to pay for all or a portion of the tuition and registration fees for ULM credit classes and degree programs that will benefit your employees. Through the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the IWTP provides grant funding to eligible companies for required and beneficial employee training. This training can either be traditional for-credit classes or it can be customized classes to meet your very specific needs.

To date our program at ULM has been awarded over $29.7 million in funding to train over 33,000 employees in Louisiana. This funding comes from the interest earned on overpayment of federal unemployment insurance and is returned to the employers who pay into the system.

The Incumbent Worker Training Program (IWTP) is designed to benefit business and industry by assisting with existing employees' skill development and by increasing employee productivity and company growth. This is expected to result in the creation of new jobs, the retention of jobs that may otherwise have been eliminated, and an increase in wages for the trained workers.

Business and government act in partnership with training providers to ensure a properly trained workforce and a consistent supply of employees with the skills necessary for company growth and employee advancement.

The Incumbent Worker Training Program is a partnership between the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC), business and industry, and training providers.

The program is funded by a portion of Unemployment Insurance (UI) tax contributions that is dedicated solely for customized training. The customized training this partnership provides produces benefits for:

Employers

Trainees
