The University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) and Louisiana State University Alexandria (LSUA) signed a memorandum of understanding at a press conference on May 21, 2026. The agreement provides pathways for students graduating from LSUA to enter graduate programs at ULM, including Pharmacy, Criminal Justice, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Strategic Communications.
ULM Political Science senior Catalina Droddy recently completed an internship with the City of Monroe. The internship was funded through a partnership between the city, ULM Political Science Professor Dr. Daniel Hummel, and the Lawson and Sharon Swearingen Endowed Professorship.
On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Alpha Zeta Nu Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, inducted four new members, including Sarah Charrier, Madison Hebert, Azlyn Isaac, and Elizabeth Poydras.
Three University of Louisiana Monroe accounting students have been awarded highly competitive scholarships from the Louisiana Society of Certified Public Accountants (LCPA), earning nearly $9,000 in total funding and statewide recognition for academic excellence.

The University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) has received $2.26 million from the Ouachita Parish Police Jury (OPPJ) to launch the Food Is Medicine program. The mission of the program is to transform the health outcomes and economic landscape of Northeast Louisiana (NELA) by integrating clinically prescribed nutrition with professional medical care to prevent and treat diet-related chronic illness. The NELA region currently faces some of the highest national rates of chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. Husband and wife Dr. Chris Blackburn and Ewa Blackburn have once again been awarded scholarships for advanced language study by the prestigious Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). Dr. Blackburn is a Professor of History in the ULM College of Arts, Education, and Sciences. Ewa Blackburn, a graduate of the ULM M.A. program in History, serves as an Adjunct History Instructor and is an Ed.D. Candidate in Curriculum and Instruction at ULM.

The University of Louisiana Monroe School of Education held its annual Elevate Education campus visit day for local high school students on April 1, 2026. During the closing ceremony of the event, the Regions Foundation presented a donation of $30,000 to the School of Education to help support the continuing efforts of the Elevate Education program to build a pre-educator pipeline for local high school students interested in becoming educators.
On Saturday, December 13, LaFaye Price will walk across the stage at Fant-Ewing Coliseum and receive her bachelor's degree in general studies from ULM, making her one of the oldest graduates in the history of the university. Grant Erbelding, a graduate student in the biology program at the University of Louisiana Monroe, has been awarded $10,000 for his research on the bottomland hardwood ecosystem. Erbelding is one of only two students across Louisiana to receive the Graduate Interjurisdictional Research Award Fellowship (GIRAF). This NASA and NOAA joint fellowship, offered through the LA Space Grant and LA Sea Grant programs, seeks out and supports graduate researchers tackling the needs and challenges facing high-priority coastal and wetland ecosystems.

The University of Louisiana Monroe is preparing to crown its new titleholders for 2025-2026. The annual Titleholders Competitions will be held on November 7 and 8 to determine who will represent the university as Mr. ULM and Miss ULM. The 8th annual Mr. ULM Competition will be held Friday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m., the 72nd annual Miss ULM Competition will be held Saturday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. Both competitions will be held in Brown Auditorium, 4001 DeSiard St. in Monroe. General admission individual tickets for each competition are $10, while tickets for ULM students, faculty, and staff are $5 for each competition. ULM's annual Trunk or Treat event will take place on Monday, October 27, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. This year, the event will once again be held on Mitchell St., in the parking lot in front of the Student Center. Mitchell St. will be closed to traffic. Attendees are encouraged to park on the south side of Stubbs Hall and Brown Hall, adjacent to Desiard St.
