M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction: Secondary Education (Code: DLCI)

The Master’s in Secondary Education is comprised of 36 hours of course work that is completely online and can be attained within one full year if summer school is attended. This degree allows a student to develop more in-depth knowledge in secondary education content areas with a broader understanding of STEM/STEAM activities and preparation for becoming a Lead Teacher. The comprehensive plan also lends itself to a more inclusive understanding of current standards, trends, and innovations.

Degree Plans of Concentrations

Regular Status for Admission:

  1. Applicants who are regularly admitted to the Graduate School satisfy at least TWO of the following requirements:
  2. Minimum Graduate Record Examination (143 verbal + 138 quantitative) score of 283
    or Graduate Management Admission Test score of 450
  3. Minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 (based on a 4.0 scale)
  4. Minimum formula score of 707.5 (2.5 GPA x 283 GRE) or Minimum formula score of 1000 (GPA x 200 + GMAT)

Conditional Status

  1. Applicants may be admitted on conditional status with undergraduate deficiencies and/or GPA or GRE scores that fall below the minimum for regular admission. In the latter case, the minimum requirements for conditional status are both:
  2. Minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.2 (based on a 4.0 scale) 
                                         or
    Consideration of all previous coursework, even if below a 2.2 GPA, if 2.5 GPA was received on the last 60 undergraduate hours attempted from a regionally accredited college or university.
  3. Minimum formula score of 622.6 (2.2 GPA x 283 GRE) or for MBA applicants only, 1050 (GPA x 200 + GMAT) applies to all students being considered for Graduate School admission.

 

Minimum Requirements:
A candidate for Secondary Education must hold a valid teacher’s certificate in the field of graduate specialization issued by the Louisiana State Department of Education or its equivalent.

 

Jobs in this Master’s include:
By attaining a Master’s in Secondary Education a candidate will be more marketable for a position of Teacher Leader in the schools. Also, teachers with a Master’s of Education Degree are eligible to mentor a student teacher or University Intern.
