Checkout Overview

Students living in University Housing are required to follow established checkout procedures at the end of each academic term. Failure to properly check out may result in additional charges.

Semester Deadlines & Preparations

Semester Checkout Deadline

Students must check out within 48 hours of their last final exam, unless approved for Winter or Summer Housing.

Fall 2025 Move-Out Dates: Thursday, December 4 – Wednesday, December 10

For an early checkout, please contact your Resident Assistant (RA) or Hall Director (HD) to schedule a time.

Scheduling Your Checkout

All residents must schedule a checkout appointment with their Resident Assistant (RA) or Hall Director (HD).

Signup begins on the Wednesday before finals and must be completed at least 24 hours in advance.

If your assigned staff member has no available times, you must schedule with another staff member.

Room Preparation Requirements

Prior to checkout, residents must:

  • Remove all personal belongings from the room and bathroom
  • Clean all assigned living spaces
  • Ensure the room is left in good condition
  • Return keys directly to an RA or HD

Rooms that are not clean or still contain personal items will not be approved for checkout. Leaving keys in a room, under a door, or with another student will result in an improper checkout charge.

Graduating Students

Graduating students must check out by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on the Sunday following commencement.

Checkout appointments are required. The Residential Life Office cannot accept keys or complete checkouts.

Winter and Maymester Housing

Students approved for Winter or Maymester Housing will be relocated as space becomes available.

Students will be notified when their new assignment is ready.

Residents of Bayou Village Apartments will not be relocated.

 


Summer Apartment Residents

12-Month Contract Restrictions

Students living in Bayou Village Apartments under a 12-month contract may not sublease, allow guests to stay, or store belongings for others during Winter, Maymester, or Summer breaks.

Summer Apartment July Checkout Deadline

Students must check out by July 31 at 2:00 p.m. unless returning to the same apartment for the following academic year.

Students transferring to another unit must be fully packed and ready to move by this date.

Scheduling Your July Checkout

Checkout appointments must be scheduled at least one week in advance and no later than 24 hours before the checkout time.

If your assigned staff member is unavailable, you must schedule with another staff member.

Room Condition Requirements

All personal belongings must be removed, the unit must be clean, and keys must be returned directly to an RA or HD.
