The Entrepreneurship Pelican Cup hosted its fourth annual awards luncheon on March 26, 2026, at ULM's Bayou Pointe Event Center. The luncheon was the culmination of the entrepreneurship competition, with $157,000 in prize money awarded to the top three teams in the Undergraduate and Graduate Divisions, including their faculty advisors, and the winners of the live Elevator Pitch Competition in each division, voted on by attendees of the luncheon.

The Entrepreneurship Pelican Cup competition has announced the finalist teams for the 2026 competition. A total of 12 finalist teams have been selected to compete in the oral finals, with six in the undergraduate category and six in the graduate category. Franklin Forward is a non-profit organization located in Winnsboro, La. that works to empower local youth by connecting them to college, career, and cultural opportunities. The organization was founded in 2024 by Allan Corbin, a 1984 ULM alumnus.

Due to continued power outages and ongoing weather-related uncertainties, the University of Louisiana Monroe will remain closed through Tuesday, February 3.
University officials will continue to monitor conditions and work closely with local utility providers and emergency officials. An accomplishment decades in the making, Price says her graduation wouldn't have been possible without the support and encouragement of her family and a drive to finish that never went away.

The ULM water ski team placed second at the 46th Syndicate Waterskis Collegiate Water Ski National Championships in El Centro, Calif., on Oct. 18. The tournament marked ULM's 47th consecutive appearance at Nationals.
ULM finished second with 12,195 total points, falling short of the University of Louisiana Lafayette, which earned 13,230 total points. Florida Southern College, the University of Alabama, and Rollins College rounded out the top five finishers.

Grant Erbelding, a graduate student in the biology program at the University of Louisiana Monroe, has been awarded $10,000 for his research on the bottomland hardwood ecosystem. Erbelding is one of only two students across Louisiana to receive the Graduate Interjurisdictional Research Award Fellowship (GIRAF). This NASA and NOAA joint fellowship, offered through the LA Space Grant and LA Sea Grant programs, seeks out and supports graduate researchers tackling the needs and challenges facing high-priority coastal and wetland ecosystems.

The ULM Toxicology faculty have been awarded a grant in the amount of $134,299 to conduct water quality monitoring in the Upper Bayou Lafourche watershed. The funding source is the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with a sub-grant agreement with the Gulf of America Alliance and the Morehouse Soil & Water Conservation District. This project will determine current water quality conditions in the Bayou Lafourche watershed and indicate potential changes in water quality, i.e., nutrient reduction, due to Best Management Practices (BMPs) implemented by area farmers and landowners. ULM Toxicology will sample monthly for three years after BMP implementation has concluded.

The University of Louisiana Monroe is highlighting enrollment growth in key areas for the Fall 2025 semester. Undergraduate enrollment in the College of Health Sciences rose 4.75% compared to Fall 2024. Within the College of Health Sciences, graduate programs increased 9%, boosted by an additional cohort in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program and the inaugural class of the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program. Graduate enrollment university-wide rose 11%, while overall student headcount increased by about one percentage point.

The name is inspired by the miles of rice fields that lie between the universities' campuses in Monroe, La. and Jonesboro, Ark., which yield some of the largest rice crops in the United States.

"Dristi", a team including ULM sophomore computer science students Unika Bista and Divya Shah, was awarded third place at the competition, which included a $5,000 cash prize.

The University will receive $272,364 per year for five years, totaling $1,361,820, to enhance student support and assist first-generation, low-income students and students with disabilities in achieving success and graduation. ULM has been a recipient of the federally funded TRIO SSS grant to support traditional and non-traditional students since 2015.

A supplemental appropriations bill (HB 460) included the funding, which was signed into law by Governor Jeff Landry on June 23, 2025. The supplemental funding will go toward the operations of the COP.

The University of Louisiana Monroe is one step closer to the complete renovation of Sugar Hall, which houses several health science programs, thanks to the support of the Louisiana State Legislature.
Going into the 2025 regular legislative session, ULM requested $14 million, in addition to the $16.7 million received last year, in capital outlay funding to finish the renovation of Sugar Hall. However, the total project cost was reduced to $25.7 million leaving only $9 million needed, which the legislature approved. The anticipated completion of the renovation is scheduled for summer 2026.

The $2 million endowment was made possible by a $1,000,000 generous donation from Sharon Griffith Turrentine and her husband, David Turrentine. The ULM Foundation added matching funds of $200,000 and submitted a competitive proposal to the Louisiana Board of Regents Sponsored Program for a match of $800,000. The endowment will provide funding for the expansion of educational opportunities in the School of Visual and Performing Arts.

Dr. Bruscato was a professor of chemistry at ULM for 43 years. He retired in 2007. The scholarship was established with a $25,000 gift from Dr. Vince Forte, a former student of Dr. Bruscato, and his wife Lana Forte.

Browse on the Bayou is a special college preview day designed with future Warhawks in mind. Prospective ULM students and their families can learn about the more than 90 academic programs that ULM offers, as well as tour the beautiful ULM campus and hear from current students about why "The Best is on the Bayou."

The University of Louisiana Monroe is proud to announce that Keep ULM Beautiful (KULMB) has been awarded a prestigious Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) University Affiliate Grant. This $5,000 grant will fund the installation of three new water bottle filling stations in key campus locations, significantly advancing ULM's ongoing commitment to sustainability and waste reduction.

The University of Louisiana Monroe will participate in the annual MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 20. ULM invites faculty, staff, students, and community partners to Bayou Pointe Event Center, 1 Warhawk Way, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. After a short program, participants will help sort and package donations made to The Wellspring for the "World's Largest Baby Shower." The donations will be used for the Wellspring's women's domestic violence shelter.
