Imagine sitting down to analyze a poem in your college English class, then being handed a rock as well. That's what it's like taking a class with Dr. Patrick Morgan, Assistant Professor of English at the University of Louisiana Monroe. A lesson Morgan teaches on reading rocks and poetry has been published by Princeton University Press as a book chapter titled, "Rock Your Classroom," in The Pocket Instructor: Writing. This lesson stems from his larger commitment to interdisciplinary research, studying the connections between geology and literature, including two additional book chapters published recently by Oxford University Press.

The University of Louisiana Monroe held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first installation of the Louisiana State Mesonet, an interconnected network of instrumented weather monitoring stations. The ceremony was held on the ULM campus at the mesonet site located adjacent to University Park on Bon Aire Dr. Special guest speakers included Louisiana District 5 U.S. Representative Julia Letlow, whose leadership helped secure the funding for the project, and Brad Bryant, Meteorologist-in-Charge for the National Weather Service in Shreveport.

The exhibition began September 23 and runs through October 16. Students choosing the Atmospheric Science program are exposed to a variety of professional opportunities even before graduation. Price, son of Mrs. Price, and Mark Romero, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System. Guests were able to view the new signage reflecting the name in the Physical Therapy suite in Walker and were also given tours of the physical therapy clinic by current students.

A check presentation to commemorate the donation was held on September 17, 2024, in Hemphill Hall Room 208. The University of Louisiana Monroe's TRIO Programs Student Support Services (TRIO-SSS) recently concluded its 9th Annual WINGS College Transition Camp, held from August 21st to 23rd, 2024. The ULM WINGS Camp, a three-day program, was designed to provide essential support to incoming freshmen TRIO-SSS participants at ULM as they prepare for the fall semester. The camp's primary goal was to help first-generation college students transition smoothly into university life by equipping them with the necessary tools, resources, and guidance to navigate their academic journey successfully.

The sculpture, titled Here We Go, was created by Kansas City artist Beth Nybeck. The 12-foot-tall steel sculpture has been installed next to Sandel Hall on Northeast Drive.

Nominated for five awards, the two awards were for the FLIGHT Program, an experiential digital badging curriculum requiring students to master seven competencies essential to professional, personal, and social growth. Suitable is a software platform and app that assists universities in boosting student engagement outside the classroom.

The University of Louisiana Monroe and President Ron Berry received the prestigious Hattie Corbin Award for Excellence in Education. "The Hattie Award" is given to individuals, educational programs, and institutions aimed at uplifting disadvantaged students around the country. The award includes a monetary gift to further those aims. This year's gift included a $10,000 donation to ULM's TRIO programs, which are designed to assist first-generation and income-eligible students in reaching their full academic potential.

The University of Louisiana Monroe welcomed over 300 local sixth graders from Monroe City Schools and Ouachita Parish schools to its campus on June 11 and 12 for the first-ever Centennial Scholars Summit. The Centennial Scholars are a group of local students who will make up the freshman class of 2031, ULM's 100th year. The students were able to learn about fields of study and careers that align with their talents and interests.

The inaugural recipient of the Cultural Arts Fellowship is Jansyn Jenkins, a junior double majoring in ceramics and psychology at ULM. As a VAPA Cultural Arts Fellow, students are expected to contribute scholarship through creative works and extracurricular exhibitions/performances in city art spaces in partnership with a participating cultural arts organization. In Jansyn's case, this would be a partnership with the Black Creative Circle of North Louisiana.
Jansyn's work will be exhibited in the Sugar Gallery (131 Art Alley, Monroe) upstairs studio from June 2 through June 15, and there will be an artist talk at 6:30 p.m. during the June Art Crawl on June 6.

After two academic years of implementation, the Warhawk Bundle program continues to save money for ULM students. In the fall semester of 2022, ULM, in conjunction with Barnes & Noble Education, launched the Warhawk Bundle, a concierge service that allows students to have access to all their course materials before the first day of class at an average savings of 35-50%. Data provided by Barnes & Noble College (BNC) shows that ULM students saved an estimated $982,860, or an average of 34%, in the fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters using Warhawk Bundle.

Shell is a mixed-media artist born in Monroe, LA. His works are geared toward the Black experience, giving agency to people from the Monroe community through powerful images of deconstructing, sampling, and remixing identity, civil rights, and contemporary Black culture.

The University of Louisiana Monroe is the latest recipient of a grant from the state's Entertainment Development Fund. The state university will receive $750,000 over three years to create opportunities for students interested in the film industry.
Specifically, the funds will support an in-house motion picture production studio at the Clarke M. Williams Innovation Campus, to complement the Film and Media Arts Concentration within the university's Communications Degree program. In addition, the studio will host filmmaking summer camps for high school students across the region.

They were highly successful in the student competition portion, singing in different styles of music and categorized according to their year of study. Dr. Patrick Morgan, Assistant Professor of English at the University of Louisiana Monroe, has received an ATLAS grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents. These Awards to Louisiana Artists and Scholars (ATLAS) are only given to a few scholars each year, and Morgan's project, titled, "Geological Reformations in 19th-Century American Letters," was awarded full funding at $39,111. The rigorous external review process determined that, out of all the proposals submitted by scholars throughout the state, Morgan's book project was ranked first.

This event marked the first time the ULM Cheerleading team has competed in the Small Co-Ed Division in over 10 years.

The Entrepreneurship Pelican Cup hosted its third annual awards luncheon on April 19, 2024, at ULM's Bayou Pointe Event Center. The luncheon was the culmination of the entrepreneurship competition, with $96,000 in prize money awarded to the three top teams, including their faculty advisors, and the winner of the live elevator pitch competition, voted on by attendees of the luncheon.

Naresh Chhetri and Abhishek Amgain, international students from Nepal, and computer science majors at ULM, created a computer science workshop for high school freshmen as part of their work with the ULM TRiO Programs. Pushkar Kandel, international student from Nepal and mathematics/actuarial science major, assisted with the creation of the workshop. All three have held campus jobs as tutors for ULM's TRiO participants. On March 14, 2024, they presented the computer science workshop to TRiO staff and received excellent reviews. Chhetri and Amgain will now pilot the workshop in selected ninth-grade robotics, math, and science classrooms in TRiO Educational Talent Search's target area schools.

ULM Associate Professor of Atmospheric Science Dr. Todd Murphy and students in the ULM Atmospheric Science program traveled to Cabot, Ark., on Monday, April 8, to locate in the path of totality for an atmospheric boundary layer experiment during the total solar eclipse. ULM was one of multiple atmospheric science groups in the field on Monday within the path collecting measurements on how the abrupt decrease in solar radiation would impact the lower part of the atmosphere called the boundary layer.

This year, ULM Art Program's Coordinator Megan Smith hosted a ceramic bowl-making day to support the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana's Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser.
With the purchase of a ticket to Empty Bowls, attendees will get to take home a handmade bowl to serve as a reminder of the empty bowls in our community. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana. The event was hailed by the Ceramics concentration Bachelor of Fine Arts alumni, and has been supported by ULM for all eight years of the event's existence.

Eight ULM students enjoyed the opportunity to attend the annual meeting of the Louisiana-Mississippi section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) in New Orleans, LA from February 29 through March 2, 2024. Students attended a Career Panel highlighting the many opportunities for mathematics majors post-graduation, participated in workshops on mathematical modeling and data science, attended talks focused on applications of mathematics to problems in hydrology, data science, fluid dynamics, and logic, and networked with faculty, professional mathematicians, and other students from the region.

In a continued effort to bridge the bayou, Louisiana Delta Community College and the University of Louisiana Monroe will share resources to jointly deliver instruction for medical lab science career pathways. At LDCC, the 65-credit-hour Medical Laboratory Technicians Program includes certifications or exit points as a phlebotomist, a medical lab assistant, and terminating as a medical lab technician. Upon successful completion of the program, students will earn an associate of applied science degree. Students will then be eligible to seamlessly enter ULM's medical lab science bachelor's degree program. After successfully completing thirty hours online at ULM, students will graduate with their bachelor's degree in medical lab sciences.

The study examines U.S. college faculty perceptions of and experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ULM Station Archaeologist, Dr. Diana Greenlee, has been named to the Explorers Club 50 Class of 2024 for her achievements at the Poverty Point World Heritage Site.
The Explorers Club 50 chose to honor Dr. Greenlee because of her dedication to preserving the 3,400-year-old earthworks site and encouraging public knowledge surrounding Poverty Point's historical significance. Three ULM wildlife biology students recently had their first duck hunting experience thanks to a partnership with Delta Waterfowl. The University Hunting Program provides students with first-hand experience of hunting culture and wildlife management. The ULM biology program was approached by Delta Waterfowl and offered the opportunity to establish the program at ULM. The AMS Annual Meeting is the largest meeting with a direct focus on weather, water, and climate, with thousands of people in attendance, taking part in more than 40 scientific conferences and symposia. Eligibility to the President's or Dean's list requires full-time enrollment (minimum of 12 semester hours completed) and the lists are calculated based on G.P.A. hours and term G.P.A.:
President's List: an undergraduate student is required to earn at least a 3.9 grade point average.
Dean's List: an undergraduate student is required to earn at least a 3.5 grade point average.
Graduate or Doctoral Candidates are not eligible for the President's or Dean's list.

The students were charged with recreating the website for the steakhouse, with the winner receiving $250 cash and the restaurant using the winner's winning design.

The Louisiana Cancer Foundation continued their support of ULM's Paul Sylvester, Ph.D. with a $10,000 donation to support Sylvester's cancer research. The donation made on December 6 marks the 18th year that the LCF has donated to Sylvester's work, bringing the total amount donated to $180,000 over that time.

On November 2, 2023, the University of Louisiana Monroe hosted Envision 2023 at the ULM Clarke M. Williams Innovation Campus. Hosted by ULM President Dr. Ron Berry and First Lady Dr. Christine Berry, the annual celebration of the past, present, and future of ULM was enjoyed by alumni, community members, and university advocates. This year's theme was "Achieving the Impossible Dream." Attendees were treated to cocktails, dinner, and a program featuring musical performances from ULM students, staff, alumni, and special guest speaker and performer Nita Whitaker.

The ULM Honors Political Science class recently made a donation of $328 to the ULM Food Pantry, which provides non-perishable food items to students experiencing food insecurity on campus. The money was raised through a donation-based bake sale hosted by the class.

ULM Professor of History Christopher Blackburn, Ph.D. was recently invited by the University at Buffalo to present the annual C.K. Huang Lecture in Medical History. The lecture took place in the Robert L. Brown History of Medicine Collection in the University at Buffalo's Abbot Library on November 9, 2023. The C.K. Huang Lecture is named in honor of the former director of the UB Health Sciences Library and is offered annually on relevant aspects of medical history.

ULM TRIO Programs Student Support Services (SSS) and Educational Talent Search (ETS) took students on a field trip on November 9, 2023, to tour the campus of the University of New Orleans and the Nims Center Studio Film Institute in Elmwood, La. TRIO participants received information about UNO’s undergraduate and graduate school opportunities. The students enjoyed lunch at The Galley, UNO’s dining hall, and a walking tour of the UNO campus before traveling to the Nims Center Studio.

The ULM Holiday Art Sale has been a wonderful addition to the Fall Semester for over 20 years. Every year the Honorary Art Society, Kappa Pi, hosts and facilitates a maker-themed art sale. This year's sale will run from Wednesday, November 29 through Tuesday, December 5 in Bry Hall on the ULM campus. The sale is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The University of Louisiana Monroe School of Visual and Performing Arts is excited to announce "Kaleidoscope: A Global Holiday Celebration." The program is an immersive experience incorporating vocal and instrumental music, dance, and visual art.
Kaleidoscope will take place in Brown Theatre, 4001 Desiard St. in Monroe on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program begins at 7:00 p.m. General admission tickets are $20 per person. ULM students are admitted free. The University of Louisiana Monroe College of Pharmacy is proud to announce that the HERO program successfully trained over 600 first responders in its first year. The ULM HERO program is funded by a $2 million, four-year grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, which was received in summer 2022. HERO stands for Harm Reduction Education and Referral Opioid Overdose Reversal. The ULM HERO project focuses on providing harm reduction education to first responders in the state of Louisiana.

LEARN stands for Louisiana Educational Awareness for Rescue Needs. The University of Louisiana Monroe family is mourning the loss of longtime supporter and alumnus Charles "Freeman" Stamper. Stamper passed away on October 22, 2023. He received his Bachelor's from ULM (then Northeast Louisiana State College) in 1968. After graduating from his beloved university, Freeman enlisted in the US Army where he obtained the rank of E5 Specialist and was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal.

The annual brunch honors recipients of the prestigious Golden Arrow Award, Rising Young Alumni Award, and Best on the Bayou Award. This year also featured a rare awarding of the George T. Walker Lifetime Achievement Award, which had not been presented since 2015.

Siereveld's album received outstanding reviews from the International Trumpet Guild Journal, which is an internationally recognized publication known for reviewing and supporting instrumentalists.

The College of Business and Social Sciences at the University of Louisiana Monroe held a press conference on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, to announce the receipt of a second consecutive Department of Labor WORC Delta Regional Authority grant to fund the High School Business Academy. The grant award totals $1,499,983 and will continue to fund the program for the next three years. The High School Business Academy covers 11 parishes and prepares high school students for in-demand jobs in their communities in Northeast Louisiana.

The ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Nicholas Bratcher, will present their first concert of the season called "Fables and Folklore." The concert will feature musical depictions of famous works of literature and folklore. The concert will be narrated by Dr. Will Rogers.

In the summer of 2023, two ULM Health Studies students, Sohalia Schoen and Mikala Weems, attended two summer research programs offered through the Louisiana State University Health campus in Shreveport and New Orleans.
Schoen secured a spot in the immersive eight-week summer research program in cardiovascular disease known as the CURIOUS program. Weems participated in the Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPECP) summer program-- Building Health Teams.

During a waterway cleanup, participants come together to remove trash, plastic, marine litter, and other pollution from the water and surrounding areas. This helps preserve the natural beauty of our waterways, supports biodiversity, and keeps our water free flowing.

As part of the Louisiana Board of Regents' Hunger-Free Campus initiative, ULM held a non-perishable food donation drive Tuesday, Sept. 19 at the Student Activity Center. Students who donated food received a ticket to the "Roll Away Hunger" event at Skate Town on Wednesday, Sept. 20.

The University of Louisiana Monroe's TRIO Programs Student Support Services (TRIO SSS) successfully concluded its 8th Annual WINGS College Transition Camp from August 16th to 18th, 2023. The ULM WINGS Camp, a 3-day college transition program, took place just before the commencement of the fall semester and was exclusively designed for newly admitted TRIO-SSS program participants at ULM. The primary objective of the camp was to equip first-generation college students with the necessary tools for a seamless transition into university life. This involved acquainting them with campus resources, offering personalized guidance and support, fostering peer-mentoring relationships, cultivating a supportive community, and insights into the college experience.

The University of Louisiana Monroe is celebrating a number of enrollment increases in key areas at the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year. The university saw a 4% increase in First Time Freshmen, a 4% increase in transfer students, and a 10% increase in Dual Enrollment students. Overall enrollment is up 62 total students compared to fall 2022.
The ULM Honors Program is celebrating an overall enrollment increase of 38%. A total of 132 freshmen joined the program this year, making it the largest ever freshman class for the program.

The University of Louisiana Monroe Medical Laboratory Science Society and LifeShare Blood Center join together for a two-day blood drive on Monday, September 18 and Tuesday, September 19 to help save lives.
The blood drive will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both days in the Hangar Ballroom A on the second floor of the ULM SUB.

The University of Louisiana Monroe School of Visual and Performing Arts presents the play Treasure Island, based on the Robert Louis Stevenson English classic adventure. The play will be presented at the Helen Spyker Theater, 3803 Desiard St. on ULM's campus. The play opens on Thursday, September 21 at 7:30 p.m., with additional performances on Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23, each at 7:30 p.m. A final matinee performance will take place on Sunday, September 24 at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free for ULM students. Tickets are $5 for ULM faculty and staff and general admission is $10. Tickets will be available at the door prior to each performance or in advance on Eventbrite.

On Wednesday, September 13, ULM held a Donation Drive Kickoff event for the Warhawk Wardrobe, a free resource that allows students to obtain business attire for job interviews or professional events. The event was to kick off a donation drive that will run throughout the fall semester. The Warhawk Wardrobe is accepting donations of new or gently used clothing ranging from business casual to business professional. ULM President Dr. Ron Berry and First Lady Dr. Christine Berry started the drive by making a donation themselves.

After one year of implementation, the Warhawk Bundle program continues to save money for ULM students. In the fall semester of 2022, ULM, in conjunction with Barnes & Noble Education, launched the Warhawk Bundle, a concierge service that allows students to have access to all their course materials before the first day of class at an average savings of 35-50%. Data provided by Barnes & Noble College (BNC) shows that ULM students saved an estimated $1,195,337 in the fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters using Warhawk Bundle.

Reynolds is an Assistant Professor of Horn at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. The ULM family endured a loss Saturday with the passing of former employee and renowned Louisiana legislator Dr. Charles R. McDonald.
In January, ULM recognized McDonald in a standing room only crowd with the naming of the "Dr. Charles R. McDonald Office of Financial Aid." McDonald is regarded as the "Father of TOPS," which on average provides more than 58,000 students annually with financial aid, with the state legislature allocating approximately $300 million each year to support the program.

Members of the University of Louisiana Monroe's Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity recently returned from their 155th Summer leadership event, the Thomas C. Tillar Leadership Academy where the group won their fourth consecutive Robert A. Smythe Award. The Smythe is presented to the top 10 percent of Pi Kappa Alpha chapters each year. This win marks the 28th Smythe win in the last 32 years for the ULM Pike chapter.

The Entrepreneurship Pelican Cup, Louisiana's premier business plan competition, announced plans to increase prize amounts as well as the creation of the Student Innovation Fund, which will provide up to $200,000 annually to support new business grown from the competition. The University of Louisiana Monroe is proud to present the Sound of Today Marching Band at the SOT Band Camp Showcase on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. at Malone Stadium on ULM's campus. The showcase is free and open to the public.
This showcase marks the Sound of Today's first performance of the 2023 season and is sure to entertain the audience with their new fall show titled "Queens of Soul". Popular tunes from Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin and Patti Labelle are featured in the show.

The third cohort of Reginald F. Lewis Scholars were pinned during the annual Universities of Louisiana Black Male Summit, held in New Orleans on June 21-22, 2023. Two students from each of the nine University of Louisiana System schools were presented as members of the third cohort.

Professor Tomeny will serve as the school's new assistant professor of art in graphic design. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, she comes to ULM bringing special talents not only in her area of teaching graphic design, but as a Chinese culture consultant, which will offer a unique
world-view for her students.

Hobgood won the Preliminary Alpha Talent Award, the Preliminary Alpha Evening Gown Award, and the Women in the Arts Award on her way to finishing as 2nd Runner-Up in the field of 27 contestants from across the state.

The ULM Museum of Natural History partnered with VCOM to host the 2023 Bayou Discovery STEAM Camp from June 19 - 23. This year's theme was "Marvels of the Human Body." The camp took place inside the ULM Museum of Natural History on the first floor of Hanna Hall and was open to elementary students entering the 4th or 5th grade. Camp sessions were presented by teams of faculty and staff from ULM and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), which is located on the ULM campus.

A $50,000 donation made to the ULM Foundation has established the Amy Katherine Lewis Student Award Endowment in Medical Laboratory Science. The donation was made in memory of Amy Katherine Lewis by her parents Jay and Teri Lewis.
Amy Katherine Lewis was a 2016 graduate of ULM, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science. Glenwood Regional Medical Center hired Amy upon graduation, where she worked in the laboratory until her passing in July 2020.

The Kitty DeGree School of Nursing at the University of Louisiana Monroe recently hosted its second annual nursing boot camp for high school students from June 6-9, 2023. The camp hosted 51 campers from all over the state.
Throughout the four-day camp, campers were introduced to a wide range of nursing skills including taking vital signs, caring for different types of patients, starting an IV, and even a simulated surgical environment.

The University of Louisiana Monroe announces the students on the President's and Dean's Lists for the spring 2023 semester.
Eligibility to the President's or Dean's list requires full-time enrollment (minimum of 12 semester hours completed) and the lists are calculated based on G.P.A. hours and term G.P.A.:
President's List: an undergraduate student is required to earn at least a 3.9 grade point average.
Dean's List: an undergraduate student is required to earn at least a 3.5 grade point average.
Graduate or Doctoral Candidates are not eligible for the dean or president's list.

The University of Louisiana Monroe raised more than $2 million in just 24 hours as part of its inaugural Day of Giving on May 17. A total of 86 donors raised $2,319,442 for their favorite colleges and sports on the Bayou.
Two of those donors made individual $1 million gifts. These anonymous donors, empowered by the exciting direction of the University, directed their gift to the College of Business & Social Sciences.

Almost five years ago, ULM entered into a licensing arrangement with Oleolive Inc, a private biotechnology company, to develop the marketing and commercialization of Dr. Khalid El Sayed's research on the health benefits of olive oil. Dr. El Sayed's research isolated oleocanthal, a phenolic compound found in trace amounts in olive oil and demonstrated oleocanthal's contribution to the health beneficial properties of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO).
The result is a product that has been branded Oligen.

ULM's TRIO programs have been a major part of the success of students for decades. The addition of a program to offset childcare costs has been another contributor to that success. Child Care Access Means Parents In School (CCAMPIS) is a federal grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education. This program provides financial support to student-parents by assisting them with their childcare payments while enrolled at ULM.

Students and faculty from the four colleges of the University of Louisiana Monroe recently traveled to the Dominican Republic for a service-learning trip from April 8 - 14, 2023. Twenty-seven students and faculty from physical therapy/kinesiology, social work, political science, education, and pharmacy traveled to the Dominican Republic to engage in service learning centered around Abba's House Children's Center, located in the barrio of Cienfuegos, a nonprofit organization that educates, feeds, and provides medical care for 125 children living in extreme poverty. Students were also engaged in various learning and practice experiences related to their specific areas of study in Santiago.

The Bry Art Gallery in the ULM Art Program and School of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Louisiana at Monroe presents the 30th Annual High School Junior/Senior Juried Art Exhibition from February 27 to March 22. Northern Louisiana high school art students were invited to submit to the competition, without fee, artworks from their studio endeavors. These entries were juried by a panel of ULM art faculty members who selected those works that were deemed to exhibit the most creativity and mastery of the chosen medium. Accepted entries are currently being exhibited in the gallery through March 22.

These subjects have included direct and cross-examination, obtaining records, initial interviewing, and voir dire.

ULM Honors Program Director, Dr. Joshua Stockley, has been appointed to serve on the National Collegiate Honors Council's Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
The Diversity and Inclusion Committee develops strategies to increase diversity within NCHC and its member institutions, to develop programming for the annual conference and seminars throughout the year, and to produce research and scholarly publications.

The University of Louisiana Monroe is hosting a free event to help high school and transfer students fill out their FAFSA applications. Students are encouraged to come to the lobby of ULM's Sandel Hall, 4020 Northeast Dr. in Monroe, on Tuesday, February 7 any time between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Staff from ULM's Recruitment and Financial Aid departments will be on hand to help students navigate the form.

The School of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) at the University of Louisiana Monroe, will present Tennessee Williams' classic play, A Streetcar Named Desire on February 8, 9, 10, and 11 at 7:30 pm, in the Spyker Theater, behind Brown Auditorium on the ULM campus. The play, set in New Orleans, features an all-student cast of ULM theatre students.

The University of Louisiana Monroe officially welcomed newly hired Director of Athletics John Hartwell to campus at a press conference on Monday, January 30. Hartwell comes to ULM after having served as Director of Athletics at Utah State University and ULM's Sun Belt Conference rival Troy University.
"We are truly privileged to be able to announce John Hartwell as our new Director of Athletics," said ULM President Dr. Ron Berry.

The University of Louisiana Monroe held a ceremony on January 24, 2023 to unveil installations that will commemorate the William D. Hoover School of Accounting, Financial, and Information Services. The school is housed in the College of Business and Social Sciences, located in Hemphill Hall.
Members of the Hoover family were on hand to honor the legacy of Mr. Hoover and the contributions he made to ULM and the local business community.

The University of Louisiana Monroe has named John Hartwell as the new Director of Athletics. Hartwell previously served as the Director of Athletics at Utah State University and Troy University.
A press conference is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 30 on the seventh floor of the ULM Library.

Cliff Tresner, an Associate Professor of Art at ULM, has recently been accepted to the prestigious Vermont Studio Center for a three-week residency in May-June 2023.
A panel of jurors chose Mr. Tresner from a very competitive pool of applicants after reviewing his impressive portfolio of artwork. Mr. Tresner was also given a grant award of $6,750.

The LifeShare donor bus will be in the Warhawk Circle from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday, January 25 and Wednesday, January 26.

The new virtual campus tour supports ULM Recruitment in giving students a new, easy way to access the campus. The ULM Art Program and Bry Gallery are currently hosting an exhibition of works titled "Wrld Keeps Turnin" by Minden artist Keldrick Dunn. The exhibition runs from January 18th through February 15th. An artist's talk will be given on Wednesday, February 15th in Sandel 236 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception following in Bry Gallery.

The University of Louisiana Monroe Master of Occupational Therapy Program was recently granted full accreditation by the Accreditation Council on Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) during its December 2022 meeting. The accreditation comes after a year-long self-study process and an on-site review by ACOTE in August 2022. The ULM MOT program received the maximum accreditation level of 10 years, indicating that the program showed "no areas of noncompliance" and "demonstrated exceptional educational quality."

The University of Louisiana Monroe has received approval for federal funding for two projects that will make a positive impact for citizens of Louisiana. The amount for both projects totals $2,505,000, which will be funded by the Fiscal Year 2023 Omnibus Appropriations Bill recently passed in the U.S. House and Senate. The projects were supported by Louisiana's federal legislators after originating in the form of Community Project Funding (CPF) requests.

On Saturday, January 21, the ULM School of Visual and Performing Arts will host the First Annual Louisiana Horn Day. This free event will include performances, masterclasses, and exhibits dedicated to the horn and horn playing.
The Guest Artist and Clinician will be Brett Hodge, Principal Horn of the Omaha Symphony and Third Horn of the Grant Park Music Festival. Exhibits will be provided by Houghton Horns of Keller, Texas.

ULM Biology undergraduate Subash Sapkota was awarded a research grant from the Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta) National Biological Honor Society. Sapkota, a native of Nepal, is a double major in Biology and Mathematics at ULM and is a member of the ULM Honors Program.
